Elected Officers for 2025/26

New Squadron Chairperson Elected as Cosford Air Cadets Welcomes 2025/26 Officers

AGM marks a historic milestone as the squadron elects its first female Chairperson and confirms trustee appointments for the year ahead.

RAF Cosford, 17 Jul 25: On Friday 16 May, 2497 (Cosford) Squadron hosted its Annual General Meeting (AGM), welcoming a diverse audience of supporters – including local parish councillors, parents and carers, current trustees, and visiting committee members from across West Mercian Wing.

This year’s AGM marked both a new chapter and the end of an era for the squadron’s governance. After over 35 years of voluntary service, Robert Parry officially stepped down as a trustee. Robert has held multiple roles across both the squadron and wing, including Squadron Chairperson, Treasurer, and most recently Wing Secretary. His exceptional commitment and quiet leadership have helped shape the Royal Air Force Air Cadets experience for generations of cadets.

“Robert’s tireless dedication – particularly in financial oversight – has been instrumental in supporting and sustaining the RAF Air Cadets experience at both squadron and wing level,” said Ryan Phillips, outgoing Squadron Treasurer and recently elected Chairperson of West Mercian Wing.

“His legacy of service and commitment will leave a lasting and meaningful impact.”

At the AGM, eligible attendees voted in officer elections for the next year. We’re proud to announce that Tina Robinson was elected as Chairperson, making her – to our knowledge – the first woman to hold this role in the squadron’s 54-year history.

Alongside Tina’s election, Sarah M was re-elected as Secretary, continuing her valuable support to the squadron, and Annette Fairburn – a trustee since 2023 – was elected as Deputy Secretary.

Confirmed shortly afterwards at the committee’s July meeting, Andrew Potts, a trustee for the past 2.5 years, was nominated and elected as Treasurer. This followed the decision by Ryan Phillips not to seek re-election as Treasurer due to his new responsibilities as Wing Chairperson.

Squadron Commander, Flight Lieutenant Giles Vince RAFAC

During the AGM, Squadron Commander Flight Lieutenant Giles Vince, delivered a reflective yet forward-looking address, highlighting recent achievements and sharing future ambitions. These include plans to invest in canoeing equipment and instructor training to further enrich the range of activities on offer to cadets.

Looking ahead

With a strong mix of new leadership and experienced trustees, 2497 (Cosford) Squadron is looking forward to another successful year supporting young people aged 12–20 across Shropshire. As ever, the work of the Civilian Committee is essential to keeping the squadron running, from fundraising and governance to supporting volunteers and cadets alike.
